During the holiday season, an atheistic organization put a sign alongside the community Christmas display in Madison, Wisconsin. It blatantly declared: "In this season of the winter solstice, may reason prevail. There are no gods, no devils, no angels, no heaven or hell. There is only our material world. Religion is but a myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds."
On the back of that sign was the warning: "Thou Shalt Not Steal." That warning, of course, is one of the Ten Commandments. How ironic that people who don't believe in God's existence would use one of His laws to keep someone from taking their sign! If there isn't any God to establish what is right and what is wrong, that commandment is a human directive that carries no authority.
The Lord gave the commandments to show us our sinfulness and need of forgiveness (Gal. 3:24). He then came into our world at Bethlehem in the person of Jesus so that we might be justified by faith in Him. That Christmas display and the words on the back of the protesters' sign bear testimony to our Savior's birth and to our need for Him.
