How Do You Hear?
Take heed how you hear. --Luke 8:18

A young boy asked his father to solve a riddle. He said, "There were three frogs sitting on a log. One frog decided to jump off. How many were left?" The dad replied, "Two, of course." "You're wrong!" gleefully exclaimed the boy. "There were three frogs left. The one frog only decided to jump off, but he didn't jump!"

Take heed how you hear! Before you judge another's remarks, find out just exactly what he said, and what he meant by what he said.

A local radio station announced that I was going to preach a message titled "Why I Am Looking For The Second Coming Of Jesus This Year." I received, among others, a scorching letter from a listener who accused me of setting dates and predicting the return of Christ. But I had said nothing of the kind! I said I was looking for Christ's return in the coming year. I didn't say He would come, but that I was looking for Him to come. And if He doesn't come this year, I will be looking for Him next year.

Careless listening can result in serious errors. This is especially true as it relates to the Bible, for the misunderstanding of one word can cause a wrong interpretation and keep us from doing what God wants us to do.

Take heed how you hear!  — M.R. De Haan

We must correctly hear God's Word,
Or we will be misled;
We must give careful thought and prayer
To what the Author said. —Hess
To hear God speak, read the Bible carefully and study it prayerfully.
