OUTLINE

Friday, July 14, 2006, Part 2

"Love does not parade itself" (1 Corinthians 13:4).

IDEA: Boasting is usually a stupid way of thinking about life.

Is there any one you envy?

Has there ever been anyone you envied?

Why?

How do you respond to people who boast?

Do you ever boast yourself?

Why do you do it?

I. How do people boast? Is it always bragging?

Boasting can be subtle as well as open.

Why do we dislike boasting?

C. S. Lewis commended that we hate the Big Noise at the party because we want to be the Big Noise.

Boasting reflects an attitude in us that disdains the contribution of other people.

II. How does boasting reflect poor judgment about life? ( 1 Corinthians 12:21-26).

It is often done by people too dull to realize how ordinary they are.

It is done by people who think that their strength or talent is the only one that matters.

It is done by people who do not appreciate the contributions of others.
